Collections officers attempt to collect payment on overdue bills by informing customers of their debt and their various options for repayment. When agreeable payment terms are not reached, collections officers take further action in order to collect payment on debts.


What is collections job description?

Collections specialists are responsible for resolving overdue bills and collecting payments from the individuals or businesses responsible for the debt. Locating debtors and contacting them via phone or mail to address their overdue payments and determine the reason for the outstanding debt.


What are the responsibilities of a recovery officer?

The Recovery Officer is responsible for the collection of debts prior to legal recovery proceedings commencing, negotiating payments/payment arrangements, handling debtor enquiries and provides administrative assistance to the team.

To ensure success as a collections officer, you should have excellent communication, negotiation, and mathematical skills, as well as attention to detail. A skilled Collections Officer should be able to reduce company losses by encouraging customers to pay their overdue bills.
